StaticSmart ESD Carpet, the recommended solution for data storage and mission critical communications centers, is far superior to commercial "anti-static" carpeting. "Antistatic" or low kV carpeting may reduce static build-up, but does not conduct the static charge to ground. Furthermore, the backings of commercial "anti-static" carpeting act as insulators, blocking dissipation of the charge and negating the careful engineering of your access floors. StaticSmart esd static control carpet is available in carpet tile, broadloom and StatLock for access floors styles.

How ESD Carpet Works
The StaticSmart ESD Carpet system absorbs static electricity and passes the charge from the surface through the conductive backing and adhesive to the flooring sub-system to ground. As added insurance, copper grounding strips installed at suggested intervals, provide a uniform potential to ground throughout the installation.
With its patented FibreLink construction, StaticSmart ESD Carpet safely and effectively dissipates static at a controlled rate. The FibreLink conductive monofilament fiber is twisted into every tuft, creating 100 or more conductive contact points per square inch. StaticSmart ESD static control flooring meets the Motorola R56 site requirements. Static charges are ionized at the surface of the carpet and conducted directly to ground through a conductive thermoplastic backing and patented conductive adhesive system.

A rigorous test designed to simulate real-world conditions, this test will tell you whether a carpet will retain its electrical properties after it has been exposed to a year or two of chairs rolling over the floor. Rolling casters can destroy or mash the carbon fibers in some conductive carpeting resulting in failed electrical performance and can turn a once conductive product into an insulator. Julie Industries' StaticSmart carpet tile have been tested for resistance to chair caster abuse. After 100,000 chair caster cycles there was no depreciable change in conductivity or electrical performance.

FACT: Low kV or Computer Grade carpet does NOT remove static charges
Regular antistatic carpets suppress static so you won't get a shock. To protect today's high speed computer equipment, static charges must be removed. Even if you don't feel it, staticy carpet can cause mulitple problems for networked offices, electronics manufacturing, home offices or anywhere electronics are handled or used. This includes telephone equipment and headsets as well!
